Training Time (6/19-6/25)

Sometimes…life gets in the way of training.

These past two weeks have included some awesome experiences and tiring predicaments.

Spending 10 days abroad in seven European countries was a whirlwind of languages, new cultures, and lots and lots of pastries…especially those croissants with the chocolate in the middle. Thankfully, you don’t see those as often in the U.S. or else I’d be a much fatter guy hopefully still able to run marathons.


A cancelled flight and overnight layover in the 0.25-star LaGuardia Airport terminal hallway hotel (complete with the above window views) took over the the early part of the training week and a basketball officiating camp nixed the back half.

We are now two weeks away from the Grandfather Mountain Marathon…the one billed as one of the toughest marathons in the country. In most training plans, this past week would have been the heaviest training week followed by a two-week taper before the race. Obviously, I’m taking a different approach.

This week, I will push hard to get in miles and one more long training run prior to the race and hope that it is enough.
